More than half way thru our cruise now. Boarded in Reykjavik. Probably took about an hour from arrival at port to actually stepping on ship. Was organised and staff working hard. We asked for an upgraded cabin as we had booked early and prices fell dramatically, so we really appreciated our upgraded balcony cabin. It was on 11th floor and there was some noise from above, but no big deal to us. Our room beautifully looked after by Fnu, we didn’t ask for anything but he always greeted us by name and was lovely and friendly. Glad of the robes to use when walking to and from the hot tubs. Hot tubs were lovely and hot!! There is a channel you can leave your tv on at night, it goes dark and only flashes up and plays music when it is possible to view the northern lights!! So everyone who had tv left on this channel races up to deck 12/13 in middle of night for a look. Don’t forget to have your camera on night mode! Dinner was great in both main dining rooms. Staff were wonderful! O’sheehans was also great. Buffet was busy, busy, busy! Didn’t eat there much, but was fine for a quick meal. Had dinner at two of the special restaurants, but maybe expected too much, because we both felt glad that we hadn’t paid extra for them!! I paid extra to upgrade to unlimited wifi and it was great. Was able to keep in touch with the kids and grand kids back home via messenger and WhatsApp, emails and FB and IG. Worked really well for what I wanted. The ship uses Starlink. Ports were all great. Some of the smaller ports like Nanotalik were completely overrun by tourists wandering their streets with not much to do or spend their money on!! Scenery tho was amazing. Quite casual dressing on NCL, which I liked. Shows were good but get there at least 15 mins early for seats. The Star is older style ship but very nice and comfy, only thing was lack of a good lounge type area with big glass windows to sit and enjoy all the scenery. We struggled to find public areas to just sit and watch out windows as we travelled the gorgeous fjords. So glad we had a balcony!! We really enjoyed our cruise and would definately be happy to do a NCL cruise again.

Port Reviews

Olden

Lovely port with beautiful scenery. Some tour options right on port with various buses, small train shuttles, boats, open top buses, bikes, kayaks etc etc. Also a couple of souvenir shops right at port with lots of options. Also easy walk around the area.
